About the role

NCS Skills Booster consists of 15 hours of delivery within a school or college setting. Delivering to groups of around 20 students, you will deliver pre-prepared session plans on a variety of topics including mental health, employability and money management.  

We deliver these programmes throughout the year, during term time, In locations across South and East London, as well as schools around the Poole area in Dorset. As part of our commitment to widening participation we often deliver these sessions to students who are at an SEN school or a pupil referral unit.  

We are looking for confident facilitators, who would enjoy leading classroom-based sessions in a more structured educational context, whilst encouraging students to think about their futures and the skills they will need. 

Work is not consistent throughout the year, and so this will suit students or those with more flexibility in their work patterns. We will provide you with training, and coaching during delivery, you just need to come with the confidence to deliver strong sessions and a commitment to inclusive practice. An ideal role for those looking to develop some classroom based experience. 

SALARY:     Assistant Team Leader = £10.20/hr or £38.15/half day

                    Team Leader = £10.80/hr or £43.20/half day 

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead session delivery, which means that you need to be familiar with all the sessions prior to delivery and amend them if necessary, 
  • Work independently or in pair closely with school/ college staff and Twin HQ team to address any issues and ensure that matters for concern are reported immediately to the school/ college and Twin HQ. 
  • Manage challenging behaviour in the classroom and ask for support from the school/ college and Twin HQ if needed, 
  • Be reliable and stay committed to session delivery, 
  • Build good rapport with young people, be a good role model and remain professional throughout delivery, 
  • Be contactable and give proper notice to Twin HQ in case of sickness/ absence, 
  • Complete any relevant paperwork, 
  • Liaise with another team leader if sessions are delivered by two staff members, 
  • Be punctual and arrive at schools/ colleges on time, 
  • Be able to switch to online delivery if necessary (due to the pandemic, etc.)

Skills and Experience

Essential

  • Previous experience of working with young people in a paid/voluntary capacity, and an understanding of how to engage young people
  • Confidence to plan and deliver excellent sessions that will engage young people and an understanding of the need to adapt these to suit individual needs
  • Good interpersonal skills with people at all levels, including young people, school/ college staff and professionals. 
  • Excellent organisational skills
  • Ability to take ownership and responsibility
  • A clear DBS check and satisfactory references A problem solver who is able to adapt to a challenging and changing environment and take initiative in managing these changes and remaining calm in difficult situations (Desirable for Assistant Team Leader)
  • Ability to create and foster an inclusive environment and support young people who are particularly vulnerable (SEN cohorts)

Desirable

  • Experience of working within a secondary school/college-based setting 
  • Previous experience of managing a group/class of students/young people
  • Experience and/or knowledge of online delivery
